Argo Tempo R3 Saddle

When you're on the bike for hours at a time, the last thing you should worry about is a painful posterior. Built for endurance road cycling, the Tempo Argo R3brings stability and pressure-relieving comfort to long, arduous rides thanks to its short-nose design and generous sit bone support. This model uses Fizik's R3 shell, a carbon-reinforced nylon, and Kium hollow rails to balance strength, weight, and price-point.

While traditional saddle shapes require you to shift your position frequently for better leverage on changing gradients, the Argo puts you in more planted position for greater stability and better weight distribution. This model uses Fizik's Type 2 Foam, which both compresses less and supports a more upright posture for improved comfort on long-distance rides. Should you choose to adopt a more aggressive forward-leaning position, the shorter length allows you to do so without placing undue pressure on sensitive tissues.

Doesn't beat the Specialized Power

Familiarity:
I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions

Like Specialized or not, they did the r&d and testing on how to make the short saddle work. The incredible success of that saddle has led everyone else to imitate, but probably without the r&d and testing. The Bontrager Aeolus works. I do like the concept of the short saddle. The Specialized is a revelation and I put it on all my bikes. The Bontrager is a close second. I still try to find something even better. Neither the Shimano (Pro) Stealth nor this Fizik Argo Tempo R3 works for me. The Fizik tries to differentiate from the Specialized Power by being 2 cm longer, as if that might get folks who don't like stubby saddles to like this one. But, that doesn't really change this to a normal saddle. And Fizik made the cutout wider than the Specialized Power cutout (which is already really wide). Too wide. I normally ride a 155 saddle, but the cutout on this (slightly) narrower 150 gouged my thighs because I was sitting "in the hole". I tried different tilts of the saddle and testing it by rocking my hips forward and back to find the sweet spot. Not sweet for me. You can buy all but the Bontrager here so something from Competitive Cyclist can probably match your preference. Others have given this one a good review and others have pointed out the gouging from the ridges. See if you can try before you buy.

Seventh saddle I've tried and this is a winner. It combines really great sitbone support with a generous cutout so you can sit up or ride in near TT like position with no pressure. Materials are premium and a great, minimalist aesthetic. My only complaint is my Argo didn't find me sooner.

Rough edges on inside of cut-out

Familiarity:

I took a one hour ride with this saddle on my trainer and I was just dying to get it off. Notice that the edges around the cutout of this saddle are hard and not rounded like Selle Italia's. This just failed to conform to my anatomy and created some intense pressure points at my seat bones. Maybe this design just isn't suited for female riders? My hip width is 130 mm, and the cutout was more than large enough. I think the angular shape of this saddle is meant to look cool, but sacrifices comfort to do so.

Great saddle

Familiarity:
I've put it through the wringer

I had tried other saddles and found the one, might take a few rides to break in but this is the most comfortable saddle I've had. No more pain after long rides and feel like I can go on forever. Great product !!

Great saddle, try it

Familiarity:

Replaced a Fizik Aliante with this Fizik Argo Tempo R3 (150mm) and couldn't be happier. It's a racing saddle so you're not getting padding and gel like you would on a Selle SMP Gel Flow, for example (I run that one on a Cinelli Supercorsa and it's fantastic). This Fizik looks great, contours well, weight is solid and is just an excellent saddle for endurance or racing. Have put a few hundred miles on this already on my Bianchi Infinito and it's just a solid product with ample padding and much more comfortable than an Aliante for example.

Similar to the Specialized Power saddle, but I've been digging this better. It's fantastic!
